Citizens will be allowed to pay their electricity bills in installments.
The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) held a press conference today, in coordination with the Ministry of Information, to discuss the high electricity bills that were witnessed over the past few months. Here are the highlights of that meeting:
- The Authority acknowledged the burden that the COVID-19 pandemic has put on the citizens, and said that it wishes to alleviate the society’s burden.
- The Authority’s chairman, Mansoor al Hinai, explained that the high electricity bills are due to the subsidy redirection program launched this year, adding that the government will reconsider the subsidy decision.
- Citizens will be allowed to pay their bills in installments.
- There will be no tariff increases during the summer months this year.
- Electricity consumptions for the months of May and June will be re-calculated in accordance with the new approved categories.
- The Authority promised to protect the rights of all citizens, and any company that violates its decisions will be fined heavily.
