Guess the streak can't go on forever.
Drake’s had 9 albums consecutively debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200 charts and the streak has sadly ended with his latest release of Dark Lane Demo Tapes. The mixtape lost the top spot to Kenny Chesney’s latest album Here and Now.
His most recent album, Scorpion, actually landed him a record when it raked in 732,000 units in its first week. It went on to tie Kanye West, Eminem, and The Beatles for the longest No. 1 streak.
But relax, the U.K. announced that Drake has earned himself the top spot in the UK Officials Albums Charts for his new mixtape, and Toosie Slide also holds the top spot on the UK Official Singles Charts. This means that it’s an amazing album (as expected), but Americans love themselves some country music judging by Kenny taking the top spot on Billboard.
Dark Lane Demo Tapes features a few previously-leaked tracks and some unreleased material, and has collabs with Future, Chris Brown, Playboi Carti, and Young Thug.
And lighten up! It’s just a mixtape… Dreezy has a chance to start a new chart streak when he drops his new album this summer. Here’s Toosie slide, which is off the new mixtape.
