New Street and Traffic Lights in Muscat

The Municipality aims to attain to all streetlight requests and assures the public that the newly installed traffic lights will be running soon.

Muscat Municipality has implemented many road lightings projects to reduce traffic congestion and to develop the city. The municipality’s lighting department has been engaged in the implementation of lighting projects in various roads. Since 2018, it has been replacing the current lightings with energy-saving LEDs in various main streets of Muscat, including the Quriyyat-Sur road.

The municipality said 6578 of the 6914 requests for installation for new streetlights have been completed. To this date, a total of 7,000 lightings have been replaced with LEDs, with a completion rate of 85%.

The municipality seeks to rationalise electricity consumption, conserve energy, achieve sustainable development standards and deploy smart applications with an aim of reducing maintenance and operating expenses.

The lighting department has already completed the implementation of 35km of internal road lighting projects in various wilayats of Muscat, including Al Amerat, Ghala, Bausher, Ministries Street, Al Khuwair, Seeb, Mabela, Al Khoud and others. It has also replaced many light poles which includes 443 electric PVC protected materials in all the wilayats of Muscat.

The Muscat Municipality will activate the new traffic lights on the roundabouts Seeb, Amerat, Al Mawaleh Roundabout, Mazoon Roundabout, and Al Salam Roundabout at other places soon. The project includes a control center equipped with sensors and cameras to regulate the flow of traffic during peak hours.
