Both the Bajan prime minister and Prince Charles attended the ceremony.
Not many superstars can say they have a national day in their honor, and if anyone can, it’s obviously going to be Rihanna. She accepted the title of “national hero” in her native Barbados on a historic day for the country, as it officially became a republic and Queen Elizabeth II was removed as head of state.
“May you continue to shine like a diamond. The imagination of the world through the pursuit of excellence with her creativity, her discipline, and above all else, her extraordinary commitment to the land of her birth” the country’s prime minister, Mia Mottley, said at the ceremony in reference to Bad girl riri. She added: “On behalf of a grateful nation, but an even prouder people, we therefore present to you the designee for national hero of Barbados, Ambassador Robyn Rihanna Fenty.”
Rihanna now joins a select group of 10 other Barbadians including Garfield Sobers, regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time and the only other living national hero.
