ROP will monitor public's movement through checkpoints that are allocated alongside the parameters of Muscat's Wilayats.
Huda had the opportunity to interview lieutenant Said Al Mahrazi of the Royal Oman Police earlier today.
The lieutenant explained that the main role of the ROP in combatting COVID-19 is their implementation of several checkpoints, in co-ordination with the concerned authorities, to make sure that movement in parts of the governorate are limited. The ROP in addition arranges and manages the entry and exit to and from Muscat governorate. The lieutenant added that the public has been cooperative in general and has been following the COVID-19 supreme committee’s guidelines.
He further explained that the Muscat lockdown decision came after the further spread of the pandemic in Muscat. He also explained that although a fine for violators has not been discussed yet, no one will have the ability to pass through a checkpoint and enter or exit Muscat governorate without a valid justification.
He stated that certain people would be exempt from this decision and will be allowed to pass through checkpoints, which are the following:
- Urgent medical cases
- Logistic and food supplement trucks
- Employees whose presence is required at work (official letter needed)
He elaborated that citizens and residents are otherwise advised to stay at home and asked those that reside outside of Muscat to refrain from attempting to enter Muscat governorate if there’s no need for it.
He clarified that the ROP could monitor the public’s movement through the many checkpoints that are allocated alongside the parameters of the different Wilayat’s in Muscat governorate. People will not be allowed to roam around the governorate unless they’re leaving home to buy food supplements, seek medical care or go to work.
The lieutenant assured that most citizens and residents are aware of the consequences of this pandemic and consequently do follow the rules and stay home.
Lastly, he stated that the ROP, along with the MOH, are working hard to combat COVID-19 and it wouldn’t be complete without the public’s cooperation. He urges everyone to follow directives and the medical guidelines that are recommended by the supreme committee: stay home and be with family, and never attempt to go out unless if it is to buy food or seek medical care.
