They do it all and you can now see it at an exhibition.
If you have ever wondered what inmates in Oman are actually up to behind bars, here is your answer and it might surprise you.
Gulf Inmates Week officially opened on Sunday at Mall of Oman, turning part of the mall into a showcase of skills created entirely by male and female inmates.
The exhibition features products made by inmates from the General-Directorate of Prisons and includes everything from professional crafts and handmade items to paintings, women’s clothing, silverware, antiques, and even date-based products.
The exhibition runs until December 27 and is held as part of Unified Gulf Inmate Week 2025, themed Towards the Path of Reform.
This is not just about displaying products. It is a real look at how prisons in Oman are focused on rehabilitation, training, and second chances. Inmates take part in vocational programmes, creative workshops, and certified training designed to help them build skills they can actually use after release.
GCC Inmates Week is marked across Gulf countries every year and focuses on rehabilitation, education, family support, and reintegration into society. In Oman, that includes training in crafts, IT skills, soft skills, and personality development, alongside support for inmates’ families and community acceptance after release.
In short, this exhibition shows prisons as places of reform, not just confinement and it is happening in one of Muscat’s busiest malls.
