There are 3 centres in Muscat providing the tests for free.
Dr Mazin Al Khabouri, the Director General of Private Health Institutions at the Ministry of Health (MoH) has explained that a number of venues have been allocated to test residents and citizens with symptoms, free of charge.
He explained to our sister station Al-Wisal that health insurance only covers costs of bedridden patients and that private hospitals have been asked to direct patients who can’t afford the test to a free centres.
Dr. Al Khabouri mentioned that a basic test costs between OMR 45 -50, and that some private hospitals charge more as part of equipment and staff-related costs. Good news is, he mentioned that the MoH has approved a new COVID-19 testing kit that will cost only OMR 10, which will be arriving soon.
The following centres in Muscat are ones that are offering free COVID-19 tests at the moment:
- Muttrah (Medical Stamina Centre) Near Majan College
- Al Seeb (Medical Stamina Centre) in Al Sharadi near the Health Service Centre and another centre in Al Rusayl
- Bousher (Ghala area next to Holiday Inn – Kimji Complex)
The centres are open between 8:30 AM – 1 PM from Sunday until Thursday. Expats need to provide a document that has a name of the company they work in, be accompanied by the company’s representative or to show Work Permit/Card or Residency card.
In the case of unavailability of a Residency Card, a phone number should be efficient.
