The UAE's Federal Supreme Council elected His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed as the new President of the UAE, and Ruler of Abu Dhabi.
This comes after His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan passed away on Friday, May 13th, at the age of 73.
Sheikh Mohammed expressed appreciation for the trust that was placed in him by his brothers, the Supreme Council, and the rest of the country’s rulers, and he prayed to Allah to guide him, and help him bear the responsibility of the trust that he was given.
The sheikh is now the third president of the UAE, and the 17th ruler of Abu Dhabi. Prior to this position, the new president served as the Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik congratulated his brother, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan, on his election as the new president of the country, and he prayed to the Almighty to guide him in leading the Emirati people to achieve further progress, and prosperity.
The UAE is currently in a 40-day mourning period, and the Ministry of Presidential Affairs also suspended work in the private sector, as well as in ministries, departments, federal and local institutions, starting from today, for a period of 3 days.
