Oman Takes 3rd Place In Asia’s Rocket League Championship And Reaches FIFAe World Cup!
The Omani Rocket League team capped off a strong run in Kuala Lumpur with an Asian bronze medal and a World Cup qualification.
Oman is heading to the FIFAe World Cup 2026 after a huge result for the national Rocket League team.
The Sultanate finished third in Asia at the FIFAe Continental Cup 2026 before beating New Zealand 4-2 in a decisive playoff to officially secure its place at the World Cup.
The Omani team featured Sultan Al Balushi, Noah Al Mahmoudi and Abdullah Al Amri, under Dutch coach Overmeer, with the tournament taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from August 21 to 23.
Oman’s road to qualification started much earlier in the FIFAe Nations League 2026, where the team competed across three rounds of West Asia qualifiers.
Strong performances and enough consistency points earned Oman a place at the continental championship, where the team then continued its run against some of Asia’s best.
After making it through the group stage and into the knockouts, Oman produced a dominant 4-0 win over India in the quarter-finals.
The team then lost 4-0 to Australia in the semi-final, setting up a third-place clash against host nation Malaysia.
Oman bounced back in style, defeating Malaysia 4-0 to claim the Asian bronze medal and earn one final shot at World Cup qualification.
That came against New Zealand.
With a place at the FIFAe World Cup on the line, Oman won the playoff 4-2, officially booking its ticket to the global tournament.
The result means Oman has now qualified for the FIFAe World Cup for the second year in a row.
Saba bint Said Al Busaidi, Chairperson of the Oman Committee for Games and Esports, described the qualification as a proud achievement and an important sign of how quickly esports in Oman is developing.
She said the result reflects the ability of Omani players to compete at the highest levels, as well as the continued work being done to strengthen national teams and build a sustainable esports sector in the Sultanate.
From regional qualifiers to an Asian bronze medal and now a place on the world stage, it’s another major result for Omani esports.
